Global citizenship refers to the concept that, everyone, no matter where they live, is a part of the worldwide community.
It is the idea that all the citizens have rights, civil responsibilities and duties that come with being a member of the worldwide community.
The basic idea of global citizenship is that one’s identity transcends political borders and that citizen’s rights and responsibilities are derived from membership in a broader class, i.e., “humanity”.
This doesn’t mean that global citizenship denounces people’s national and local identity; however such identities are given second place to their membership in a global community.
Global citizenship means not only enjoying our own rights, but also bearing responsibilities for surrounding people and environment, beyond one’s nation or territory in order to create a virtuous society.
